Mixed bag for Hawk Green

The 1st XI welcomed Woodley to Rhode Field at the weekend on a wet and windy day. With Woodley winning the toss and electing to bat, the players took the field in a rain effected game, 40 overs each.

On a slightly damp track, Hawk Green set about the Woodley batsmen early, Jason Downey removing D Oldland for 0 in the 3rd over. H Webb was the standout performer of the Woodley innings with 68, supported in part by D Cranwell & D Kay, 17 & 23 respectively, as they posted a total of 148/8 off their 40 overs. B Holme was the pick of the Hawk Green bowlers taking 3-16 off his 5 overs.

In reply, in form opener C Young scored 85 at the top of the order, setting a good platform for the rest of the innings. A valuable partnership at the end came from high school couple Sam Clarke & Jason Downey, scoring 28* and 14* respectively. Hawk Green reached their target for the loss of 5 wickets, M Mallet taking 2-39 and R Billinge taking 2-38.

The 2nd XI made the short trip up to Woodley for the much anticipated top of the table clash. The weeks weather had taken it’s toll, meaning the game was reduced to 28 overs per side.

Having lost the toss and being stuck into bat, Hawk Green started well with opener M Hill scoring 25. The in form Ben Littler added another 75 to his tally, supported in part by the lower order, G Ridings adding 15 in the middle overs to help Hawk Green reach 162/9 in their 28 overs. P Cocks and H Rippon were the pick of the bunch for Woodley, taking 3-3 and 3-36 respectively.

In reply, an opening stand of 129 between P Cocks (96) and S Richards (41) ensured that Woodley were always ahead of the rate and looked comfortable as they cruised to their total of 165/3 off 26.2 overs, G Ridings taking 2-40 along the way.
